The news of ITB Berlin cancellation has been booming the last few days. Some visitors and exhibitors have shown anger to the decision made specially the timing of announcing it.Some others have shown support and appreciation to protect the public health. The question that runs in everyone’s head now is how far can the epidemic go and how long will it affect the global travel and tourism industry?
For sure no precise answer is available, methods and assumptions are released daily, and no guaranteed result can be assumed so far. Hopefully, things end up well in the near future.
However, ITB exhibition organizers have tried to carry on the exhibition to occur online and combine different travel categories virtually. Dr. Christian Göke, CEO of Messe Berlin GmbH, said:” With more than 10,000 exhibitors from over 180 countries ITB Berlin is extremely important for the world’s tourism industry. We take our responsibility for the health and safety of our visitors, exhibitors and employees very seriously. It is with a heavy heart that we must now come to terms with the cancellation of ITB Berlin 2020.”
ITB Berlin 2021 will be taking place from Wednesday, 10 to Sunday, 14 March, and from Wednesday to Friday will be open to trade visitors only. With the new date announced by Messe Berlin, some travel specialists started to set new plans and preparation for that, and some other have developed a fear from the new situation and the rapid spread of the virus.
We wish everyone a healthy and safe life. Let’s keep our fingers crossed and wish for the best. Following safety tips is the only choice that we have to prevent contaminating public areas and make the virus spread harmless for the public health. Although opinions differ on the virus spread as some consider it as a media propaganda, and some others consider it as a serious risk on the globe.
We show our support to Messe Berlin as they made the right decision to protect the public health regardless of the invested costs, time, and efforts that we as Babylon Booking have lost to optimize our presence and achieve our key objectives during the ITB Berlin trade show.
