Easy Jet new sales channel on GDS

Posted on January 13 2019

The low-cost carrier Easy Jet now sells its flight tickets through the GDS channels. This will increase its sales cost by adding Point-Of-Sale fees to every booking going through the DGS (Global Distribution System), in parallel to the Easy Jet’s website which was their main and only sales distribution channel. Easy Jet Team ensured that their primary source will always remain the website and fares will always be cheaper when booking direct online.
€7.50 will be paid for a one-way ticket, €12 for a return ticket and €5 per segment for a ticket that includes more than 2 segments. Considering that GDSs charge 2-3 USD per segment for the transaction.

Low-cost carrier’s strategy is saving money. And instead of selling their flight tickets on a GDS, they sell it directly on their websites and spend extra costs on direct advertising.
The aim behind this new added selling strategy channel is to enhance the number of business travelers to fly Easy Jet.
The GDS sales rate is enormous comparing to Airline booking websites. Booking a flight is easier through GDSs because of the variety of airlines available and is more preferred by travel agents.
That’s because of so many options you have for a single flight. Let’s show you how:
As a travel agent, if a single traveler asks to book a flight from origin X to destination Y without identifying a specific airline, you know that there are so many options and variables such as airlines that fly on the X-Y route, policies for each airline, and services that can be provided by each airline.
Searching on an airline booking website will be much more complicated than how it seems easy to you. You will have a huge number of choices and making the right decision will require a long time for you to decide.  This long process is only for one traveler, what if you had 10?

GDSs simplify this long searching process by combining a large number of airlines in a single system. Searching, booking, and issuing tickets via a GDS will be easier and faster. The ease and flexibility of GDSs enhance travel agents to use it. It’s more preferred by both travel agents and airlines because it highly increases sales rates, helps arranging optimum flight options, and saves more time and money. This is why GDSs are more preferred by agents and airlines as the system increases their sales volume.
